A Little Bit of Everything at Madison & Benji’s Oxford Oaks Farms Wedding

Madison and Benji’s wedding was a day that had a little bit of everything.

Color everywhere. A giant oak tree. Mismatched china. Sheep wandering around the farm. A veil covered in flowers. Tiny watercolor portraits. A live painting of the ceremony. Family everywhere. Lots of laughter. A few tears.

And somehow, all of it worked together.

Their May wedding at Oxford Oaks Farms in Oxford, North Carolina felt incredibly personal from beginning to end. It wasn't a wedding where the details were there just to make things look pretty. So many of them had a story behind them.

Madison thrifted flower brooches for all of the groomsmen, which might be one of my favorite wedding detail ideas I've come across. Each one was a little different, and together they felt collected and unexpected.

Her veil was another favorite. Colorful flowers were sewn into it, giving the whole thing this beautiful, slightly vintage feeling. It felt very Madison.

She was surrounded by her family throughout the day, too. They were there helping, laughing, fixing things, and making sure she actually stopped for a second to take everything in. There was something really sweet about watching how involved everyone was.

And Madison was just so happy.

Not “I'm smiling because I'm supposed to smile for the photographer” happy. Actually happy. The kind of happy that takes over your entire face. She laughed constantly, soaked everything in, and seemed genuinely thrilled to be marrying Benji.

Benji had a very different reaction.

He was emotional. And watching him see Madison throughout the day made it pretty obvious that this wasn't just a wedding he was excited about. He was completely in love with her.

The setting helped, too.

Oxford Oaks Farms is beautiful without needing much added to it. The ceremony took place underneath a huge oak tree, with the farm stretching out around them. And somewhere nearby were the sheep, who became an unexpected part of the entertainment for the day.

Honestly, I think everyone was a little obsessed with them. I certainly was.

Then there was the live painter, Emily.

She painted Madison and Benji's ceremony while it was happening, which was already pretty incredible. But she also painted small watercolor portraits of the guests throughout the day for Madison and Benji to give as gifts.

I received one, too.

It's now framed and hanging in my office.

I love that I get to look at it while I'm working because it brings me right back to that day. It's such a small thing, but it's also exactly the kind of detail that made their wedding feel different. They weren't just creating an experience for themselves. They were thinking about the people who had come to celebrate with them.

The reception was set up outside on the lawn with long wooden tables, candles, and mismatched china. It felt warm and relaxed and a little bit like everyone had gathered for a really beautiful dinner party.

Which, in a way, is what a wedding should feel like.

A gathering of the people you love most, in a place that feels like you, eating good food, laughing too loudly, crying when you didn't expect to, and probably getting distracted by sheep at least once.

That was Madison and Benji's day.

It was colorful and a little quirky and incredibly joyful. It had beautiful details, but the details never felt like the point. The people were.

And if I had to pick one thing to remember about their wedding, it would probably be Madison's happiness and the way Benji looked at her.

Everything else was just part of the picture.
