Cailin and Sam | Door County Wedding at Peninsula State Park
Some places become part of your story long before you ever get married there.
For Cailin and Sam, that place is Peninsula State Park in Door County, Wisconsin.
Not only did I get to capture an incredibly personal and intimate wedding, but I got to stand up with my best friend as her maid of honor while I did it.
Cailin’s family has spent every summer camping in Door County since she was a child. Over the years, those summers became a family tradition filled with time together, familiar places, and memories that stayed with her as she grew up. When Cailin and Sam started dating, Sam became part of that tradition too.
So when they started thinking about their wedding, Peninsula State Park felt like the obvious place to say their vows.
Their wedding weekend was small, relaxed, and centered around the people they love most. Their families and closest friends stayed together in a cabin for the week, spending time exploring and enjoying Door County before the wedding day arrived. It felt less like a traditional wedding and more like a family vacation that happened to end with two people getting married.
And honestly, that felt very fitting for Cailin and Sam.
Getting Ready Together
The morning of the wedding was quiet and easy.
Cailin got ready with her sisters, her nieces, her mom, her soon-to-be mother-in-law, and me. There was plenty of time to relax, talk, munch on pastries, and take in the morning without feeling rushed.
Eventually, it was time to head to Peninsula State Park.
A First Look at Peninsula State Park
While Cailin finished getting ready, Sam was waiting with his groomsmen at the park. They had spent the morning readying the ceremony space and making sure that everything was set for the big moment.
Sam spent some of the time working on a crossword puzzle and finishing up his vows while he waited to see Cailin for the first time that day.
It was such a Sam thing to do.
There was something really sweet about watching him sit there, surrounded by the people who knew him best, taking a few quiet moments to himself before the ceremony.
Then Cailin arrived, and the waiting was over.
A Small Wedding at Welker’s Point
Their ceremony took place at Welker's Point in Peninsula State Park, overlooking the lake.
It was so fitting for Sam and Cailin to get married in a place that already held so much meaning for their families. This wasn't simply a beautiful location chosen for wedding photos. It was a place where Cailin had spent summers growing up, a place where her family had built years of memories, and a place that eventually became part of Sam's story too.
Their ceremony was intimate and heartfelt, surrounded by their families.
Cailin's nieces served as flower girls, and they were completely adorable. They added the perfect amount of sweetness and personality to the day.
The whole thing felt very much like them. Simple, meaningful, and focused on the people who mattered most.
Dinner in Door County
After the ceremony, everyone headed to an intimate dinner at a Thyme in Door County.
There was no huge reception or packed dance floor. Instead, they sat around a table with their closest family and enjoyed being together.
And I think that was one of my favorite things about their wedding weekend.
Every part of it seemed intentional.
Cailin and Sam weren't trying to create a wedding that looked impressive to everyone else. They created a wedding that felt like them.
A week together in a cabin. Summers at Peninsula State Park. A ceremony overlooking the lake. Their nieces walking down the aisle. A quiet dinner with their families.
The things that already mattered to them became the things that made their wedding day special.
A Door County Wedding That Felt Like Home
There are plenty of beautiful places to get married in Door County, but I think the most meaningful wedding locations are the ones that already have a story.
For Cailin and Sam, Peninsula State Park wasn't just a beautiful backdrop for their Wisconsin wedding. It was part of their relationship and their family history.
They chose a place where they had already spent years making memories together.
And that's what made the weekend so special.
Their wedding wasn't about creating a single perfect day. It was about bringing together the people they love, returning to a place that means so much to them, and starting the next part of their story surrounded by family.
As someone who has gotten to witness and photograph their relationship from the very beginning, documenting their wedding weekend in Door County, and standing beside Cailin as her maid of honor was an incredible honor.
Some weddings you photograph.
Some weddings you get to be a part of.
This one was both.
